Struck it Rich

You won't believe what I got in the mail today.

I now have in my possession Gold.

When my brothers and myself were small we had the most strict, most kind, most forgiving person you could have as a babysitter....

That person was none other then Veda Mitchell.

As I rember it she was an awesome woman, raising 3 kids of her own and at the lose of one, with nobody but herslf and strong will to get her through. She used to scrounge the house for things for us to eat and always came up with something healthy even though I doubt she ever had more then $20.00 in her purse at any one time. She taught us about love, compassion, rules of life and, how to be strong when things are looking bleak. Always strong willed and wouldn't let us fart sideways if we didn't have a good reason for it.

One thing I remember most is how late at night before she put us to sleep, she always had a scary ghost story to tell us. I have for many, many, many, many, many years wanted those stories because I can only remember parts of each.

Well today my Mom called and said she had some letters for me. 3 letters to be exact all from Veda....Oh Man my heart jumped 2 times when she said that............here's what I received.

Here are the stories I got...

1) Margie, Margie, give me back my BIG TOE

2) The Bear and the Monkey

3) Bloody eyes and Bloody bones

Oh by the way they are all hand written. How often do people hand write things now-a-days?

Thanks Veda and thanks Mommy for those letters...My kids are going to be scared out of their skin....HaHaHaHahehehehe

Camping in our woods

This last weekend the 2 neighbor boys, D'Artanyan, and myself went camping in the woods that are in hiking distance from our place.

All loaded up and off we go.
We had to climb under a bob wire fence to enter the field that leads to the woods.

Finally got to the woods but then...

....OH MAN another bob wire fence.
We had to study this one and come up with a great plan to get past it.

There were also some streams we had to cross and we set up camp next to one of them.

For dinner we had ramen noodles and hot dogs, and for dessert we had marshmallows.
For breakfast we ate eggs, sausage links, and toast.
We played the bug game and the neighbor boys are now addicted to it.

This was in the morning and I had most of camp packed up.

On the way to the campsite we encountered a wild turkey and I chased it around in a big circle trying to get some good pics but my camera settings weren't set right so the pics didn't turn out. The boys all thought this was the funniest part of the whole trip, watching me run in circles. They thought it was a beaver. Sorry, but I will tell you it was a Mom turkey because there were 4 or 5 baby turkeys following her, and she kept trying to divert me away from them.
We had loads of fun and the kids can't wait till we go again. Of course we came home with lots of tics in tow.

Weekend in Ex. Springs part 3

We got everything ready just (barely) in time for the 4th of July party.

My brother David showed up for last years party. He wanted to help out by buying some beer.

So this year when I went downstairs to get something out of the fridge I couldn't believe my eyes when I opened the door. Guess what caught my eye, beer David bought for all of us to try. Over a year later there was still some left.
(They sucked, that's why there's still 2 left.)

Since it had been raining we didn't have as big of a turn out as we should have had but as the night wore on more guest showed up.

We had live music, that's always a special treat but I went to down to the house to get some pics of the kids shooting off their works so I missed out on all the fun up at the barn.

One of the rockets that they fired up fell over as I was taking a pic and hit me in the chest....oh man did it hurt, it left a big tan/brown spot on my shirt were it smacked me.

The fire works the city put on were great and fun was had by all...I went to bed early because I was suffering from war wounds.

Weekend in Ex. Springs part 2

It has just been raining all day long here so we decided we couldn't do the 4th of July party in are usual spot which is the back porch.

Audrey tried sooo hard to help dry things up but it just didn't work

So off to the Barn we go.

We had to move every thing from the house out to the barn...Then set it up!

Oh and we had to have help...i guess...

...more help...i guess

I thought we had it all under control?

More tomorrow.

Weekend in Ex. Springs

Well it's that time around here in Ex. Springs for the moving of the trucks and tractors.

This time we had a very good reason for moving them...well we always have a good reason but this time it was different and I'll post about that latter.

They have to be moved in a very speific order, you can't just start moving things around or it would end up looking like a used car lot.

Truck after truck and tractor after tractor they were moved in a harmony of sounds and smells and it was that perfect blend that made for a job well done.

Some go over there

and some over here...

...and one right here.
